Minneapolis Rat Removal Tip: Why You Should Hire A Professional For Rat Removal

Rats are dirty little creatures. They carry many harmful and transmittable diseases that can make people and pets sick. If you think you may have a rat problem, you probably do. For everyone you see, there are many more in hiding.

Rats typically avoid contact with humans. However, they do like to live in close proximity because they forage for food. Humans are always leaving some form of food lying around or in the trash.

Once rats have taken up residence in your home, they can do a lot of damage. Their feces also contain pheromones that attract other rats, letting them know that your house is a nice place to take up residence.

Why You Shouldn't Use Poisons

Rat poison is a common method for do it yourself rat removal. However, it is not a good option. Poison isn't as effective as people like to think. Not every rat who eats the poison dies. The ones who do die a slow and agonizing death which is very inhumane.

When rats ingest poison in a home, many of them dies slowly in the attic or walls. As their bodies begin to decompose, they give off a terrible stench that is hard to get rid of. It i9s a strong, stomach turning odor.

What is Involved in Rat Removal

To completely rid your house of rats, you must trap them and remove them. Whether they are dead or alive, this is the only method that truly works.

The first step in the process is to find out where they are getting in. This is typically multiple areas. Rats can chew through anything given enough time, even concrete. They can squeeze through any hole the size of a quarter or half an inch wide. Although many of them seem much bigger, this is an amazing feat that they master early on.

All holes must be sealed with metal flashing and steel mesh to prevent re-entry. Look around the foundation of the house, gables, soffits and even the ridge gap on your roof. Nothing is sacred.

Once all the entry ways are sealed, it will prevent more rats from entering and you can start removing the ones that are there.

Traps must be set in attics or walls and where ever you suspect rats are habituating. It is essential to use the right type of traps and bait to attract the rodents. The traps need to be checked daily and removed as rats are caught. The process may need to be repeated depending on the size of the infestation.

Only a professional can make this an easy process while removing the rats safely and properly cleaning the mess they leave behind to keep from attracting additional rodents.
